McLeod Certified Athletic Trainers work with many of the high school, college and professional teams in the region.
Health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education and training and the state’s statutes, rules and regulations. As part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation or injuries and medical conditions.
McLeod Sports Medicine contracts with many area high schools and, during the spring season, offers a day of athletic pre-participation physicals for rising 9th through 12th grade athletes. The athletes must be rising 9th through 12th graders for the upcoming sports seasons. The one day physicals are held at McLeod Family Medicine Center located on the McLeod Regional Medical Center campus at 555 East Cheves Street, Florence, SC.
From August to November on Saturdays (8:30-10 a.m.), McLeod Orthopedic Specialists, Certified Athletic Trainers and Family Medicine Residents evaluate injuries, take X-rays, apply splints/braces and refer athletes for further treatment, if needed.
