  • Low-Dose CT Scans for Lung Cancer Screening Reduce Smoking Deaths

    New recommendations suggest that lung cancer deaths can be cut by 20 percent if long-term smokers have an annual low-dose CT scan. The scans are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance if a person meets several criteria.

    To qualify, the person 1) should be aged 55-80, 2) has smoked a pack a day for 30 years (or 2 packs a day for 15 years) and 3) is still smoking or stopped in the last 15 years.
