McLeod Health Raises Awareness of Heart Month

McLEOD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER 4 FEBRUARY 2025

This year’s McLeod Health promotions focus on raising awareness of heart disease, recognizing the signs of a heart attack and the importance of calling 911, and the leading technology and latest techniques offered by our physicians. These efforts are being communicated through the use of social media, television advertising, physician articles, educational community events, and patient testimonials of McLeod Heart Disease Survivors: Carolyn Chatman from Manning, Gloria Lucas from North Myrtle Beach, Beverly McKee from Florence, and William Stroud from Mullins.

 Most common heart attack symptoms:

  • Chest pain, discomfort in center of chest
  • Pain or discomfort that spreads to upper body, arms, shoulder, back, neck, or jaw
  • Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing
  • Sweating or cold sweat
  • Indigestion or choking feeling
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Extreme weakness or anxiety
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat

Women’s symptoms can also differ from men:

  • Anxiety or sense of impending doom
  • Overwhelming fatigue
  • Fainting
  • Sweating
  • Sleep disturbance

Not all women will experience chest pain.

If you experience any of these heart attack symptoms, call 911. Don’t wait more than 5 minutes!
