McLeod Health Hospitals Receive Safety Grade of A from Leapfrog Group

2 DECEMBER 2024

McLeod Health Cheraw, McLeod Health Clarendon and McLeod Health Dillon recently received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit upholding the standard of patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. This national distinction celebrates these hospitals’ achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors. The Leapfrog Group assigns grades to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“This recognition is a reflection of our teams’ hard work, dedication and tireless efforts to provide quality care for our patients,” said Dr. Caetie Rabon, Rural Regional Chief Medical Officer for McLeod Health. “Surveys such as Leapfrog help us provide a culture of safety and identify how we can continue to improve the delivery of compassionate, quality care for every patient.”

This is the fifth consecutive time McLeod Health Cheraw has received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from Leapfrog. Bren Lowe, CEO of McLeod Health Cheraw, said, “Receiving this prestigious national recognition year after year highlights the dedication and hard work of our entire team in providing exceptional patient care and maintaining the highest level of safety standards.”

“At McLeod Health Clarendon, patient safety and quality care are our top priorities,” said Rachel Gainey, McLeod Heath Clarendon CEO. “Receiving the Leapfrog Safety Grade of A is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our staff.  This recognition, along with our A rating in the Spring, highlights our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional care and maintaining the highest standards of safety for the communities we serve.”

“McLeod Health Dillon’s pursuit of quality improvements is unending, and our staff is committed to delivering the highest level of care to the region,” added Jenny Hardee, CEO of McLeod Health Dillon. The hospital also received an A rating in the Spring of 2024.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
