McLeod Hospice celebrated its 39th Annual “A Light for Someone You Love” Tree Lighting Ceremony, presented by Signature Wealth Strategies, on Thursday, December 5, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Hundreds attended the event which raised more than $120,000 to support programs and services provided by McLeod Hospice.

During the ceremony, the family of Freddie Saunders, representing all the families who have been served this year by McLeod Hospice, lit the trees. The Savannah Grove Baptist Church Praise Team performed, and Lay Minister Ann Orr offered the closing prayer.

Administrator Crystal Orphan also presented the Spirit of Hospice award to Reverend Kathy Campbell during the event. She was the 24th recipient of the award. 

Campbell began her association with McLeod Hospice as a full-time hospice chaplain and served in that role for nine years. Her training as an ordained Lutheran minister was a benefit to patients, staff and families. She has retired from this role but continues to care for patients and their families as a McLeod Hospice Volunteer. Campbell particularly focuses on patients who are residents in long-term care facilities. 

“Kathy is beloved by our staff and often offers guidance through prayer as the team passionately cares for our patients,” said Orphan. “She also assists the staff through stressful situations and regularly brings much appreciated treats. In addition, Kathy provides invaluable leadership through her service on the McLeod Hospice Butterfly Fund Advisory Committee.” 

“A Light for Someone You Love” is sponsored by the McLeod Health Foundation to directly fund items needed for the McLeod Hospice House, to help patients remain comfortable in their homes and to provide bereavement care for families being served. 

McLeod Hospice serves patients in Florence, Darlington, Dillon, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Horry, Lee, Sumter, Marion, Clarendon and Williamsburg counties.

While the lighted trees will brighten the community this season, the gifts they represent will help bring the light of hope to McLeod Hospice patients and their families.
