Local Physician Gives Back and Inspires Giving in Others
After years on the move as a traveling physician, Dr. Raymond Holt has found a home at McLeod Health. The New York native began working at McLeod Primary Care Seacoast in 2010.
One of the first things that struck him at his new job was his fellow employees’ passionate support for the McLeod Health Foundation.
“My first exposure to the Foundation was seeing others around me filling out the pledge cards to donate,” explained Dr. Holt. “I was thinking ‘what is this about, all this giving?’”
Dr. Holt quickly learned how the McLeod Foundation supports the patients he and his team serve, from providing them access to cutting-edge technology to helping cover the cost of medications or food and other socioeconomic challenges.
“It was a tremendous learning experience for me,” Dr. Holt recalled.
“The Foundation provides comfort for my patients through a variety of programs. All of it is so important.”
Dr. Holt was inspired to become a Foundation donor himself. And, recently, he began inspiring others to give as well.
Through the Foundation’s new Healthcare Hero initiative, patients can donate to honor a medical professional who has provided exemplary care. It was no surprise that the honors began piling up for Dr. Holt.
“I can personally say it makes my day to receive one,” Dr. Holt, who has now received 11 Healthcare Hero awards, said with a smile. “It is nice to be reminded of why we do what we do, and that despite working in such a challenging environment, patients recognize the difference we make in their lives.”
Dr. Holt appreciates that through this generous recognition his patients are now impacting the lives of other patients at McLeod.
“With the McLeod Foundation receiving donations as part of this program, patients are also making a difference in the community for the health and wellbeing of others. It is a true win, win.”
