McLeod Health celebrated the unveiling of portraits to honor Dr. Al Logan, Pathologist, and Dr. Mark Pelstring, Family Medicine Physician, on March 28, 2023.

During the portrait unveiling ceremony at the Surf Golf and Beach Club, Monica Vehige, CEO of McLeod Health Seacoast, welcomed family members, friends and former colleagues of Dr. Logan and Dr. Pelstring. She explained that McLeod honors the lifetime achievements of role models who have impacted the organization in superlative ways with the commissioning of a portrait.

“Today we are honored to present these two physicians with McLeod Health’s highest honor,” said Vehige. “They laid the foundation for our hospitals in Horry County. Our success is directly related to their leadership and dedication.”

On behalf of the McLeod Health Board of Trustees, Chairman Ronald Fowler, said, “These works of art are reminders of how individuals like Dr. Logan and Dr. Pelstring have fundamentally changed healthcare delivery, improved outcomes for patients and stretched the organization forward as a change agent in their professional field. We are so appreciative for the positive relationships fostered by Dr. Logan and Dr. Pelstring both within McLeod and in our community as an ambassador for McLeod Health. This is an honor we are proud to make possible for their most generous gifts of time and talent.”

Fowler was followed by remarks on Dr. Logan’s 27 years of caring for patients at McLeod Health Loris Seacoast by Cindy Hyatt, Vice President of Patient Services. In her remarks, Hyatt said, “Dr. Logan was instrumental in guiding our labs to achieve accreditation by the College of American Pathologists, which is the most rigorous choice for accreditation, to provide the highest level of patient care.”

Ken Beasley, Senior Vice President, McLeod Physician Associates shared remarks about Dr. Mark Pelstring. In his remarks, Beasley said, “Dr. Pelstring led our organization during a period of transition. His leadership as chief of staff was instrumental in guiding our physicians and ensuring our healthcare system prospered.”

McLeod has a long-standing tradition of acknowledging the life-time achievements of McLeod Physicians, Nursing Professionals and Organizational Leaders. One of the most significant opportunities for recognizing meritorious service and paying tribute to the fine character of these individuals is through the act of commissioning a portrait in their honor by the McLeod Health Board of Trustees. The artist’s rendering of these individuals are placed on permanent display in areas representative of both the location of their service as well as commemorating their expertise in the field.

Tuesday’s event marked the 34th and 35th portraits honoring individuals during the past three decades.
